Your current points are safe. They will immediately start building up at the enhanced, accelerated Premium multiplier rate. All points, old and new, keep their value. You can cash them in at the enhanced Premium exchange rate for bonuses, spins, or alternative perks. Your status essentially boosts your whole loyalty point economy. Your past activity is rewarded through the increased earning potential applied to all your future play.
