Identifying and Steering Clear of Unlicensed Gambling Sites
The risks of unlicensed gambling sites are serious and varied, making identification and steering clear a critical skill for any online player. These platforms function outside UK law and are often located in jurisdictions with little oversight. The most apparent red flag is the lack of a visible UK Gambling Commission license number and logo, usually situated at the very bottom of a website’s homepage. Any site that does not plainly display this, or that professes to be licensed by unknown, unidentifiable authorities, should be bypassed without exception. Other warning signs include excessively generous, unrealistic bonus offers with unclear wagering requirements, poor website security (a lack of ‘https’ and a padlock symbol in the address bar), and few, non-secure payment options.
